A Performance Art workshop for any dance-theater artist curious in this form. Led by Gabriella Giordano and inspired by the teachings of the late Randy Bolton.
This workshop is for anyone and everyone that has ever been curious about performance art. If you've ever wanted to share something "strange" or "weird" or "simple." We will take time to introduce ourselves and get to know each other a little bit. We will discuss the five elements of performance art; time, space, body, the artist, and the audience/the space/the public. We will use the legendary University of Montana's Personal Performance teacher Randy Bolton's rules of performance; risk, rigor, cost, and irrevocability. There will be different objects for sensory exploration that will form into our first smaller performance. We will prepare, share, and discuss. With that knowledge, you will have the opportunity to work alone or with others. You will have time to create and tinker with a slightly longer piece with a topic of your choosing. We will prepare, share, and discuss.
This is a low stakes, high reward, discussional workshop that will leave you with a short performance art piece that (if you would like) can be a part of West Fest's showcase-style event, Ok... Go?! on Sunday. My hope is that this workshop itches the eccentric part of your brain and gathers a community for a more-long term workshop I am planning for the winter. This workshop is open to dancers, movers, musicians and theater practitioners of all skill levels.
